Recap: Our Gala Milonga 27th July with Performances and Workshops from Sidewalk Tango

Posted on 4th August, 2012 by Sabrina

You can view the milonga performances at Champagne Tango Perth’s website video gallery.

If you missed our last milonga, well….you missed a packed house and stunning performances by the accomplished tango performers and instructors, David and Dianne from Sidewalk Tango in Melbourne. David lifted Dianne so high that we asked them to repeat the move, in order to change a couple of lamp globes in the hall. You can view their performances in our Gallery page on our website.

It was hard to follow such a night, but there was very good attendance, excitement and bright ambience at our milonga from a lovely cross-section of dancers, as well as members from the public , many of whom hadn’t witnessed performances of this calibre, standard and inspiration and as said by a tango couple in attendance and on our website testimonial page:

Thank you so much for bringing us Sidewalk Tango. Not just genuine top-class performers, they are quality teachers, imparting their great knowledge with an unusual degree of modesty.

Participants took home lessons learnt from Sidewalk who explored tango holistically and not clinically, the latter a mistake made by many teachers. Often amissed by teachers, Sidewalk Tango explores the soul of tango to put the music, steps, techniques and the history into the lessons, breathing life into its lessons and by doing so, bringing participants closer to the feel of tango and consequently making them more comfortable and confident in the dance. Each of the four workshops held over the weekend at Cottesloe Civic Centre attracted enthusiastic beginner and advanced dancers alike.

Sidewalk Tango said it best:

“…a big thank you for the marvellous contributions of dedication and focus from participants at the workshops, which made the sessions so successful and fulfilling.”

You can read their full testimonial on our webpage. The venue at Cottesloe turned out to be highly suitable with the fresh sea air, and art deco buildings set in beautifully groomed gardens, very fitting for tango.

Our instructors created such an impression that they have been booked up this week, to lead two exotic tango retreats to be held “in our region” in July 2013.
